How long does it take to publish a book?

I’ve been researching the book publishing timeline, and I’ve realized it’s different for every author. Some say it takes months, while others mention years! I know that traditional publishing can take longer due to finding an agent, securing a deal, and going through the editing and marketing stages. On the other hand, self-publishing seems quicker, but it still requires time for editing, cover design, and promotion.

For those of you who have already published a book, how long did the process take for you? Did you go the traditional or self-publishing route? What were the biggest time-consuming steps in your experience?
